Weight Loss Myth Buster - Part 2

Weight loss Myth buster # 4:
Skipping meals can lower your metabolism and makes it more difficult to lose weight. Regular meals are important, and what you need to do is to consume more of the foods which are good for you, which means more salads(watch the Salad Dressing), vegetables, nuts and fruits! Snack on a large slice of juicy watermelon or grapes instead of reaching out for the next scoop of your favorite ice-cream!

Weight loss Myth buster # 5:
Avoid White Food Contrary to popular beliefs, there are many "white" foods which which may be good for you- pears, avocadoes, nuts-just to name a few and the key is that what counts is the nutrients contained on those foods, and not the color.

Weight loss Myth buster # 6:
Grapefruit Miracle This is one myth that has no basis in reality. There is a group of individuals who are promoting grapefruit as a way to lose fat. In fact there is one small isolated research that states that there is a a magic fat-burning enzyme that can help you lose weight simply by consuming this fruit. However the validity of the claims is yet to be questioned and whether the citrus industry did play a role in funding those researches. Grapefruits are rich in lycopene-a good source of ingredients that can help provide nutrient and care for the cellular health-prevents cancer and heart diseases.

Weight Loss Myth Buster:
6 Biggest Lies about Weight Loss Revealed There is plenty of inaccurate data going around the weight loss industry and many people who are getting on this platform and looking for ways to lose weight have fallen victim to such myths. Let us look at some of the most popular myths circulating on this industry.

Weight loss Myth buster #1:
Avoid Carbohydrates This is perpetuated by the most famous high protein diets-the Atkins diet, South beach and a whole lot of other popular diets that promotes a diet rich in protein and low in carbohydrates. While such diets can produce significant weight loss in a short amount of time, the results are hardly long lasting and as soon as you start eating normally again, the weight comes plummeting back, even more than before!

Weight loss Myth buster # 2:
Genetics is the Biggest Factor To a certain extent, genetics do play a role in determining your metabolic rate, but this doesn't mean you throw in the hat. Your fate is not sealed if you have obese parents and grandparents. The most important factor in determining your success in any weight loss program is the number of calories you eat and the amount of physical activity you get in a single day. A simple formula burn more than you intake. Genetics do play a role in determining how much calories you will burn, as those with slower metabolic rates may burn calories much slower than those who are active and have higher metabolic rates. But there are always ways you can rev up a slow metabolism so don't ever use this excuse it's too lame.

Weight loss Myth buster # 3:
Fat is to be avoided Some people believe that cutting down on fat is necessary during a weight loss program. But the key to effective fat control is cutting down on the dangerous fats and increasing your intake of the good fat. At all costs, do avoid Trans fat and saturated fat and increase the intake of healthy fats such as polyunsaturated and Omega-3 that are abundant in foods like fish, olive oil, and avocados.

Truth about Diet Pills

According to manufacturers, diet pills use natural ingredients capable of prolonging life and containing alcohol used in medication or flavoring. One thing’s for sure, never take diet pills as substitute for cutting calories without the doctor’s recommendation. There are simple but important steps to be followed when taking diet pills:

  1. Never crush diet pills to mix in drinks or soups. Take it whole with a full glass of water.

  2. Diet pills causes a person to urinate more frequently due to its diuretic effect. This could lead to dehydration, thus, causing complications. As a pre-caution, it is best to drink eight glasses of water everyday while on diet pills.

  3. Take only the recommended dosage. Taking more than required will not help you lose weight but increase the risk of side effects

  4. Heartbeat should be less than 86 beats per minute. Stop taking the pills if it reaches 90 or higher that is why regular checking of pulse is a must.

  5. Always follow the instructions set by the dietician and/or doctor and not only rely on what’s enclosed in the box.

Also diet pills will only work as expected if diet plan is being followed.6.After three months, stop taking the diet pills. Common diet phenylpropanolamine is safe to use only up to sixteen weeks. Other studies show that it can cause health problems if taken under one month.
There are two kinds of diet pills; one is the prescription only diet pills and the over-the-counter diet pills.
Prescription Diet Pills - are drugs regulated by the Food and Drug Administration agency which side effects are monitored, maybe advertised and prescribed under certain dosages. The most popular of these is Xenical, which is licensed for long-term use. However, this too has it’s own side effects, diarrhea, oily and unexpected fecal discharge are just some. Therefore, users are advised to take a low fat diet plan.
While Over-the-Counter Diet Pills are categorized as food substitute and are unregulated. Beware that these diet pills are not Federal authorities tested and may cause serious side effects up to and including death.
Aside from a dietician, local pharmacists can also help in determining the pills that are safe and not for each person’s case. Just be extra careful about the so-called “natural” or “organic” ingredients. Not everything that comes from a natural source is safe. One example is Ma Huang, which is a botanical source of ephedrine known as a stimulant and being studied for potential side effects.
Those who have or have a family history of prostate problems, thyroid disease, mental illness, high blood pressure, and heart problems should avoid taking diet supplements. The same applies to those who’ve had seizures or strokes. If someone is taking cold medicines, especially those with decongestants, diet pills should not be taken. Whether it be a prescription or an over-the-counter diet pill, the dangers are unvarying with other similar drugs which controls the brain to reduce appetite and includes chest pains, hair fall, fever, depression, and even impotence.
And as a general rule, don’t ever try to take diet drugs if pregnancy is suspected. Persons that are allergic to sulfites and tartrazine should also avoid taking diet pills. And those who are under 18 years or over 60 years of age should consult their doctor first prior to taking any dietary drugs, especially if they rely on over-the-counter stimulants used as a replacement for increase exercise.

Healthy Weight Loss

No matter how peaceful your nature, when it comes to the battle of the bulge, you have to put up a good fight. In our eat-and-run, massive-portion-sized world, maintaining a healthy weight can be hard enough, and healthy weight loss can be a real struggle. The abundance of fad diets and "quick-fix" plans that tempt and confuse us and ultimately usually do not work.

Weight management not only makes you look and feel better, it influences your future health. A healthy weight decreases your chances of developing serious health risks such as heart disease or diabetes.

If your last diet attempt wasn't a success, or life events have caused you to gain weight, don't be discouraged. The key is to find a plan that works with your body's individual needs so that you can avoid common diet pitfalls and instead make lasting lifestyle changes that can help you find long-term, healthy weight loss success.

Lifestyle Change - Permanent weight loss is not something that a "quick-fix" diet can achieve. Instead, think about weight loss as a permanent lifestyle change. You are making a commitment to your health for life. Various popular diets can help to jump-start your healthy weight loss, but permanent changes in your lifestyle and food choices are what will work long term.

Find a cheering section - Social support means a lot. Programs like Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers use group support to impact weight loss and lifelong healthy eating. Seek out support, whether in the form of family, friends, or a support group, so that you can get the encouragement you need.

Healthy Food means Healthy Diet

Weight loss is a daunting task and every one knows that. It requires commitment, stimulus and a lot of hard work. However, a few changes can give you a jump start on your weight loss regimen.

Cut the red meat from burgers and other such foods to make your meal healthier and less fattening. If your meals will consist of poultry and fish then it will be easier to avoid the fattening but tempting restaurant preparations including fast foods which have nothing but high fat quantities and huge portions.

Preparation of food is another important aspect. If you like having a chicken, fish, turkey and shellfish as a part of your diet try avoiding the calorie laden entrees like sauces and creams and condiments with high calories Red meat reduction Frying is not a good idea. Try baking, grilling, broiling, roasting and baking. Salads and soups Always have some soup or salad before your meal. This habit will help you to lose weight, prevent hunger pangs and even control your portion sizes.

Fruit for dessert Fruits are better and definitely sweeter options than cookies or calorie laden sweet meats and treats. Fruits are naturally sweet and they don't pack in the calories and the cholesterol. They will also give you additional fiber, minerals and vitamins. Most people don't like having fruit and don't have it in the required quantity.

Losing weight affects everyone differently, and there are a lot of positive changes once a person experience weight loss.

Apart from avoiding health problems such as diabetes and even heart attacks, losing weight could simply be an overall feeling of well-being and self esteem,

For whatever reason, the thought of losing weight may sound like a good idea. However, the thought of the discipline and sacrifice required to give up favourite foods, or making the effort to exercise, after a busy work day is, for many, just a 'step to far'

It is for this reason why so many people are searching for celebrity fad diets that offer a quick and easy solution to shedding those extra pounds without the pain and sacrifice required

This is because these quick fixes instilled in certain diet plans are, in reality, are not efficient at all, because they do not employ the right principle and the right attitude in losing weight.

These quick weight loss diet plans are known as fad diets because that is exactly what they are, just a fad. In time, when fashion is over and popularity wanes, people realize that the celebrity fad diet they depended on is not so reliable after all, and they find they are back to square one, or even worse. Scientific research has shown that these celebrity fad diets do not prove that any individual is losing unwanted excess fat. It is mostly water that is lost with following celebrity fad diets or rapid weight loss practices. Water lost is regained very quickly. So there is actually zero net weight lost after all.

So one should not be foolish enough to be so gullible with the advertising of certain celebrity fad diets out there in the market; especially those which claim to aid losing a whopping amount of fat in a short time.

Each and everyone's body metabolism reacts differently to different fast weight loss programs and plans. Plus, exercise programs must be suitable to one's body, as many people are not able to exercise as rigorously as others can.

All in all, discipline and consistency is still the best practice and the key to a rapid weight loss success. Before entering into any celebrity fad diet, consider first, healthy light dieting combined with some form of workout.

The right amount of exercise applied in a regular way everyday will result in faster weight loss than many popular Hollywood fad diets on offer.

Facial Excercise for Weight Loss

Poor Valerie Bertinelli. Here she loses a great deal of weight, probably thirty pounds, maybe more, and instead of the media congratulating her on her new, svelte body, they are maligning her face, saying that she looks older now than she did two years ago when she still wore a size twelve. Losing weight means that your face will lose weight too.

Volume as unwanted pounds is shed throughout the entire body when a person loses weight. There is really no such thing as "spot" reducing as in 'I will only lose weight in my waist, tummy, hips and thighs,' so as you put away mounds of carrots, broccoli and organic lettuce leaves, just know that having a skinny body means you will have a skinny face. If you experience weight loss in your thighs, you will also experience weight loss in your face.

Loss of volume in the face is especially noticeable as previous atrophy like slightly sagging cheeks now are actual lines or grooves between your nose and your mouth. Jowls and pouches also seem to form almost overnight as the pounds melt away. You probably feel this is a very unfair scenario – losing weight to look better yet your face is losing the battle against aging. There are hollows that can form along the sides of the cheeks when weight is lost quickly. Sometimes hollows are thought to only plague those over 65 but if your weight has taken a sudden plunge, you might find your skin acting in ways you have never seen.

Fat surrounds our muscles and our internal organs as it weaves and marbles throughout our bodies. Fat nestles between our skin and body muscles. You may or may not know that it is very easy for our bodies to store fat; if we overeat and are under active, our bodies glom on to ingested calories. Most of us gals need only 1500-1800 calories per day to maintain our ideal weight; overeat and you outgrow your clothes as you become a candidate for obesity, Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure issues and other health challenges. In addition to watching our caloric intake we certainly need to include some type of physical activity to energize our bodies and to put the roses back in our cheeks.

When our faces show aging whether we have lost weight or not, there is sometimes great temptation to use extraneous methods to recapture our youthful appearance. Thinking that temporary injections that plump and paralyze will enhance your face may leave you feeling cold and offish. Injections cost a lot of money and carry a certain amount of risk. Oh sure, there will probably be redness or bruising at the injection site but if you choose to allow toxins and chemically altered cadaver material to be injected inside your body, you will first have to read and sign a very comprehensive disclosure that will absolutely let your practitioner off the hook if you have an adverse reaction.

Surgery is another avenue men and women consider when their face looks drawn and tired but if you stop and think about it carefully, cutting perfectly healthy muscle and skin, then draping it and suturing it into place may not be ideal either. In fact, some people may think it is a barbaric practice and not in line with healthy alternatives; after all, it is surgery and surgery always carries risk like infection, disappointment and even death. There are non-surgical alternatives and less invasive practices but not all of them produce the desired results of a younger looking face. Facial exercise, not twists, puckers or contortions, is a safe and sane alternative for a healthier, younger looking face.

The exercises are painless, there is no risk and you look like you did ten to fifteen years ago. Facial exercise that uses resistance training is likened to weight training. When you train your body with weights, the muscles sculpt, tone, tighten and reposition. Just as exercise works for the body, exercise will work for the face. Using white exercise gloves to hold and anchor tiny facial muscles, the facial exercises quickly work to enhance the face by engaging the muscles hidden under the skin. Most users see immediate results when using isometric facial exercise with resistance although in the beginning the results are not long lasting because the muscle needs sufficient strength training to hold the new look.

After a few weeks of training, the face begins to lose the tired, drawn look as muscles and skin become revitalized with oxygenated blood. Learning the techniques is easy, the steps are simple and the results are stunning. Now you can keep your face looking toned, tightened and lifted when you are ready to shed a few pounds without worry that your face will look tired or old.

Weight Loss Surgery - Tummy Tuck Procedure?

If you have been watching your weight go up and you are worried about the rising pounds, you may be wondering whether weight loss surgery really works. Is it possible to prevent future weight gain by putting yourself on a well-known weight loss surgical operation?

Today, weight loss surgeries are gradually gaining recognition when it comes to losing weight. Many health experts contend that people who are excessively overweight or has slower metabolism would normally require some surgical operations.

Surgery at Present

The greatest progress in the care of the surgical patient has taken place since the beginning of the present century. An increasing knowledge of disease and disorder as a result of research has permitted the development of many diagnostic aids. Some of these depend upon roentgenograms, laboratory procedures such as chemical, bacteriologic, and pathologic determinations, as well as monitoring devices and computer aids.

Hence, the result is that the diagnosis of disease and disorder is made with more exactness and certainty than was possible from the simple clinical examinations of previous days.

That is why people who wish to undergo weight loss surgery should no longer be afraid of the procedure because high clinical standards are now being implemented in every surgical operation.

The Concept of Weight Loss Surgery

Health experts contend that weight loss surgery is a “major surgery.” One of the most common reasons why people would like to lose weight is to enhance their physical attributes. However, it should not be the underlying motivation that they should undergo the process of weight loss surgery.

What people do not know is that weight loss surgery is especially generated to help obese people live longer, healthier, and better.

That is why it is important for an individual to meticulously analyze his or her situation, do some research about the process, and analyze if weight loss surgery is the ultimate choice for his or her physiological condition.

Moreover, it is important to gather further information about weight loss surgery by consulting an experienced and knowledgeable bariatric surgeon or even just an expert family physician who knows the ins and outs of weight loss surgery.

In addition, the patient should also consult the other health experts such as the psychiatrist and dietician with regards to some psychological advices on long-term goals after the operation.

Generally, patients who have undergone weight loss surgery are said to be successful if they were able to lose 50% or more of their extra body weight and will be able to maintain that condition for the next five years or so. However, the results of the operation may still vary depending on the clinical information of the patient and the skills of the bariatric surgeon.

Normally, the patient will be able to lose at least 30% to a maximum of 50% during the first six months after surgery; and within the year after the operation, the patient has the potential of losing weight up to a maximum of 77%.

Best of all, people who were able to loss weight through surgical operations can actually maintain a continuous weight loss of up to 50% to 60% in the next 10 to 14 years after surgery.

Factors to Consider

As with the other weight loss management programs, there are many factors to consider before the patient should decide to undergo weight loss surgery.

Consequently, the actual weight that will be lost is reliant on the weight before surgery, surgical procedure, patient’s age, capability to exercise, total health condition of the patient, dogged determination to maintain the necessary follow-up nurture, and the enthusiasm to succeed with the help of their family, friends, and their colleagues.

If you have just put on a few extra pounds and want to avoid gaining more, these weight loss surgeries for better health may seem convincing. But, in addition to being convinced, you may also have to take some action to ensure that your weight does not creep upward.

Therefore, it can be concluded that losing weight is not just a question of deciding to be strong-willed and determined or upbeat and positive. Lifestyle changes are where it is at for long-term success with your weight especially after weight loss surgery.

Weight Loss Tactics

Tell me, does this describe you? 'I tried a zillion diets in
fits and starts and was never successful.' Just going on a diet
will not give you a complete healthy persona. I finally paid
attention to what everybody was saying, but I was too lazy to
do.

I added exercise and fitness to the equation. We also need to
stay fit as well as diet to lose weight. Our true wealth is our
health. Isn't it worth your time bring it into peak condition
and maintain it? Diet fitness is all about an accurate mix of
diet and an appropriate fitness program.

This basically includes three levels of consideration:

1. Balance-A balanced diet must contain carbohydrate, protein,
fat, vitamin, mineral salts and fiber in well proportionate
quantity. Carbohydrates are the source of energy so these play
an important role in balanced diet. Intentional inclusion of all
foods from fruits to vegetables and meats to grains.

2. Moderation- portion control, small quantity at regular
intervals. I had to laugh when I heard the results of a 5-year
study costing millions of dollars the government ran to find out
why the population of the US is getting heavier. The
results…they determined we eat larger quantities! 'Super Size
it!'

3. Variation - wide variety in foods, means higher chances of
complete nutrition. And variety in your workout routine means a
greter chance of sustaining it.

It is a well-known fact that poor diet leads to diseases, like
obesity, even cancer and heart disease. The link between diet
and physical fitness has well been established and recognized as
a science in itself. It's the basis of dynamic and creative
intellectual activity. How do you balance diet and fitness?
What changes in your diet and fitness regimes will prove to be
the most beneficial ones?

These questions may have been on your mind for a long time but
you didn't know where to start. I let the paralysis of analysis
prevent me from getting started for a long time. I wanted the
'perfect' fitness plan. My advice? Just get started anywhere,
but get started. There are the solutions at your doorstep. First
and foremost, you need to ensure that the diet you are on,
supplies you enough strength and energy to carry out the fitness
training which means:

The basic fitness diet should:

1. Have a wide variety of foods-- wholegrain breads and cereals
for vitamins and minerals, leafy green vegetables for iron
fueling, fruit for adequate fiber, lean meat and Fish (lowers
cholesterol and helps prevent cancer) and low fat dairy
products.

2. Enable you to have optimal weight and energy to carry out
daily activities with ease.

3. Enhance quick and complete recovery during exercise.

4. Supply enough fluids to have maximum hydration. 5. Provide
both short and long term benefits and ease of maintenance.

When the above criterion is satisfied, you can confirm that you
are on a diet that is not starving you or running you the risk
of malnutrition and weakness. Fitness programs can include not
only basic gymnasium but modern techniques like dancing,
aerobics and yoga for variety and fun. If it is enjoyable it
will be easier to maintain.

Make no mistake about it, fitness regimes help you speed up the
process of loosing weight along with the diet. That is the key,
the magic diet accelerator. So eat healthy, exercise and be wise!

Overweight Diet and Fitness Experts

Diet is a topic much discussed in theory, neglected in practice. I am amused that photos and TV images of most weight loss gurus in USA show them to be "pleasingly plump", that is to say, OVERWEIGHT.

While "juicy" (or "zaftig" or "zoftic") bodies can provide sex appeal in the eyes of some viewers, comparison of health statistics of third generation Asian-Americans to Asian-Asians shows that low fat diets help longevity, and that soy foods increase resistance to numerous diseases.

ALL DIETS THAT WORK for weight loss have one principle in common: If calories burned are more / less than calories ingested, weight will be lost / gained. Physics can NOT be turned off.
